Credit report checker

Reviewing your credit report before a mortgage application can uncover outdated addresses, unknown accounts or entries that need an accurate explanation.

Your credit record

See what a mortgage conversation needs to account for.

Open the Checkmyfile page using Jack’s partner link. Read the current provider terms before creating an account.

Partner-link disclosure: the destination is operated by Checkmyfile. Its current product, trial, subscription, cancellation and privacy terms apply. A credit report is not an approval or personal mortgage recommendation.

What to review

Read the report, not only the score.

Different lenders use their own assessment. Accuracy, dates and the wider financial picture matter.

01

Your identity and addresses

Check your name, aliases, current address and previous addresses are recorded accurately.

02

Open and closed accounts

Look for accounts you do not recognise, duplicated entries and whether balances or closure dates appear current.

03

Payment history

Note any late or missed payments, defaults or arrangements and the dates and amounts involved.

04

Public information

Check judgments, insolvency information and electoral-roll entries. Use the appropriate dispute route if something is wrong.

05

Recent searches

Repeated applications can leave a pattern of searches. Do not apply speculatively just to test whether a lender might say yes.

06

A short explanation

Prepare the facts behind any issue: what happened, when, the amount, current status and what changed afterwards.

If an entry looks wrong

Do not hide it or submit multiple mortgage applications. Contact the relevant credit-reference agency or creditor using its dispute process, keep evidence and tell Jack what is being corrected.

Check the record before making an application

Look across your personal details, address history, electoral-roll information, open and closed credit, payment history, defaults, judgments and recent searches. If something appears wrong, use the relevant provider or creditor dispute process and keep evidence of the correction. A report helps prepare the discussion but does not predict a lender decision.

What to send first

A brief summary and the dates of any relevant entries are enough for the first conversation. Share the full report only through the secure route agreed for your case.

Before you proceed

A credit score is not a mortgage approval and different lenders assess information differently. Do not make repeated applications simply to test eligibility. The Checkmyfile button is a partner link; its current subscription and trial terms are set by the provider.
