International athletes

Playing or competing overseas adds currency and residence questions to an athlete's mortgage. I review the contract and intended UK property use together.

Consider the club, country and currency

The employer's location, income currency and tax records may affect lender choice. A UK home for your family and an investment property can need different routes. We organise the income trail without relying on possible future transfers.

How I approach the case

We begin with what you want to achieve, your timescale and any part of the case that needs explaining. I review the evidence and suitable lender routes, then explain the available options and their costs. A recommendation follows the individual assessment; an initial conversation does not commit you to an application.

Where legal, tax or other specialist advice is needed, we identify it early so the finance fits the wider transaction. Tell me about any change in employment, borrowing, deposit or property details before proceeding.

What to prepare

  • Overseas club or competition contract
  • Residence and income currency
  • Property occupancy plans
  • Tax and deposit evidence

You do not need every document before saying hello. Start with a short outline; detailed or sensitive records should follow through an agreed secure route.

Before you proceed

Currency changes and overseas-resident criteria can limit options. Immigration and tax advice sit outside mortgage advice.

Your questions, answered

What should an employed professional bring to the first conversation?

A useful outline includes basic pay, variable earnings, contract type, current commitments and the property budget. If pay is changing, explain why and when. Contracts and a history of bonuses or other earnings may help clarify the position, without assuming every element will be accepted.

Can you work around training, travel or a busy schedule?

Tell me the best contact method, time zone and any periods when you are unavailable. We can agree how to request information and provide updates. If an agent, accountant or other representative is involved, we first establish your permission and the limits of that contact.

How do future career changes affect the discussion?

Plans to move employer, work abroad, change a contract or reduce working hours should be discussed early. The borrowing needs to fit the evidence and the longer-term plan. A particular profession or career profile does not guarantee a mortgage or a specific borrowing amount.
