Mortgages for cricketers

County contracts, central contracts and franchise competitions can overlap. I help cricketers explain their employment, travel and earnings when planning a UK property purchase.

Separate the season from the longer income history

A useful file identifies who pays each amount, the contract period and whether a payment is salary, a match fee or a separate commercial receipt. Overseas competitions may add a currency and residence question. Looking across the year helps explain quieter months without suggesting that one strong tournament represents normal income.

Make the property use clear

Tell me whether the property will be your home, somewhere for family, or a rental investment. An overseas fixture schedule does not answer that question on its own; the mortgage needs to reflect your actual arrangements.

How I approach the case

We begin with what you want to achieve, your timescale and any part of the case that needs explaining. I review the evidence and suitable lender routes, then explain the available options and their costs. A recommendation follows the individual assessment; an initial conversation does not commit you to an application.

Where legal, tax or other specialist advice is needed, we identify it early so the finance fits the wider transaction. Tell me about any change in employment, borrowing, deposit or property details before proceeding.

What to prepare

  • County or central contract
  • Franchise agreements and payment dates
  • Income history across full seasons
  • Residence and income-currency details
  • Intended UK property use

You do not need every document before saying hello. Start with a short outline; detailed or sensitive records should follow through an agreed secure route.

Before you proceed

Income acceptance, borrowing amount and term depend on the lender’s individual assessment. Future playing contracts or sporting earnings are not guaranteed. Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments.

Your questions, answered

Can overseas franchise earnings be included?

Provide the agreement, payment evidence and currency. Whether and how those earnings can be used is a lender decision.

Does travelling for matches make this an expat mortgage?

Not automatically. Your actual residence, employment and intended use of the UK property need to be established.

Your next step

Let’s talk about your plans.

Start with mortgages for cricketers. Tell me what you want to achieve and when; we can work out what needs a closer look.

A useful starting point: county or central contract; franchise agreements and payment dates; income history across full seasons.
