Preparing a UK mortgage enquiry from Kuwait
Set out where you live, the currency and source of each income stream, and how the UK property will be used. A salary package, business earnings and family funds should be documented separately so the borrowing and deposit are easy to follow.
- Separate contractual salary, allowances, variable pay and business income.
- Identify the account holding the deposit and the route into the UK.
- Confirm whether the property will be your home, a second home or let to tenants.
Separate the salary package from family wealth
A Kuwait-based employee may receive accommodation or travel support in addition to salary. Ask which amounts are paid as spendable cash and which end if the job changes. For a family-business owner, show who owns the company and who has authority to distribute money.
Build a useful first-conversation pack
- Employment contract and salary certificate with each allowance identified
- Bank credits that match the income being used; details of existing borrowing
- For a family gift: donor relationship, source of wealth and account-to-account transfer trail
Start with an outline of the purchase price, borrowing required, income and property use. Send detailed personal documents only through the secure route agreed with Jack.
A question specific to this starting point
Can a deposit from a Kuwaiti family business be used?
Company money needs a documented lawful route into the donor’s or buyer’s personal ownership. Establish whether the payment is a dividend, loan repayment or another transaction, and ask the accountant to explain it. The lender and solicitor then assess it; a company balance alone is insufficient.

Prepare the income evidence
Salary certificates, regular allowances and any overseas-employer contract should reconcile with the amounts paid into your account. Distinguish recurring pay from travel or housing reimbursements.
Make the cross-border preparation specific
If a family business or gift funds the deposit, document the ownership and the movement of funds from the original source.
Planning a £1m+ UK purchase or refinance?
The country and income questions sit alongside the size and nature of the UK property. See £1m+ mortgages, large homes and country estates and complex property types. For a wider wealth or ownership picture, there is also a dedicated UHNW mortgage page.
How I approach the case
We begin with what you want to achieve, your timescale and any part of the case that needs explaining. I review the evidence and suitable lender routes, then explain the available options and their costs. A recommendation follows the individual assessment; an initial conversation does not commit you to an application.
Where legal, tax or other specialist advice is needed, we identify it early so the finance fits the wider transaction. Tell me about any change in employment, borrowing, deposit or property details before proceeding.
What to prepare
- Residence evidence and nationality
- Income in KWD with bank credits
- Deposit source and transfer history
- UK property and intended use
You do not need every document before saying hello. Start with a short outline; detailed or sensitive records should follow through an agreed secure route.
Country and currency acceptance are checked on a case-by-case basis. This page does not imply an office or regulatory authorisation in your country of residence.
Your questions, answered
Does living in this country guarantee access to a UK mortgage?
No. Residence is one part of the assessment, alongside nationality, income, credit background, deposit and property use. The country pages explain how to prepare an enquiry. They do not guarantee lender acceptance or imply local mortgage authorisation.
Link to this answerCan I buy a UK rental property while living abroad?
That is a question we can explore against your circumstances and current lender criteria. Start with the intended tenancy, ownership, property price, deposit and rental estimate. UK and local tax or legal implications need advice from appropriately qualified professionals.
Link to this answerWhat if my plans include returning to the UK?
Tell me the expected timing, intended occupancy and what will happen to your employment and income. Buying a home to live in, buying a rental property and refinancing an existing UK home are different briefs. The application should accurately reflect the intended use and foreseeable changes.

Can an enquiry start while I am still in Kuwait?
Yes. An initial discussion can take place remotely. Any identity, document, legal and lender requirements must then be checked for your circumstances; a remote conversation is not confirmation of acceptance.
